Project Darkstar
By Ryan Kopf - Oct. 20, 2008
I've decided to start looking at another awesome open source project, developed by Sun. I could be up all night, trying to remember exactly what to do with all these .jar files, considering I haven't used Java for at least a year or so. But either way, the fun begins.
Earlier this week I decided it might be fun to play around with Project Darkstar, an open-source game server and client development engine using Java. I had, in eight grade, spent a bunch of time turning what I learned from a chatroom example program into an online text-based game. It was a MUD, or multi-user-dimension, with a very unique and creative world. After that, I played around with RPG Maker from Enterbrain, using the Ruby programming language as an extension. Upon seeing Darkstar, I decided it could be fun to try my hand at game design once more.
